Handling different formats is one of the added values that language providers offer to their customers. But in an environment where cost is an ever more important factor in the translation process, standardization of translation formats has become not only a technical issue, but an economic issue as well. Automation of the work-flows (machine translation, computer-assisted translation, terminology extraction etc.) are depending on format conversion, tagging and protection of non-textual elements.

The presentation addresses the main barriers for format standardization and explains possible solutions.
